Description
When the elders approached Jurre regarding the care of a child, he immediately protested. Arguing in earnest that the job was one that belonged to a woman, not one trained for war. What would he know of a child's needs? But they would not relent and so brought before him two girls, one older and fluid whose calm demeanor, and tumbling wavy locks lent to the impression of a gentle moving stream. The other, much younger then the first, bore the appearance of light. The flicker that glowed from her golden brown eyes seemed to burst into the very energy of her body, and yet, how easily she was held in check by this young woman.
It was with hesitancy that the small hand was passed to Jurre. The blue eyes of the maiden untrusting, issued caution and warning. And yet as quick as it had flashed across her face, it left, and she turned to the young girl, promising a quick return from the mission that pulled her away. And then they were gone, leaving Jurre alone with a child, whose brief description had placed him with the knowledge that this little girl, Miya, was no ordinary child. She was an elemental. A fire elemental. Looking forward to the next few hours scared him more then any war. Yet, it wasn't the fire element in her that worried him but the fact that she was a child, and he had no idea what to do with her. The next few hours would prove him none the wiser.
Miya was never without a joyous expression. Every bit of life held fun and every thing was a toy and she ran from one place to another, always returning to pounce on Jurre in some manner as he struggled to keep up. But, instead of wearing down and calming as the day drew on, her energy only increased, until fearing she would burn down the entire garden in which she played, he attempted to reproach her. But the little one only smiled brightly in response.
Nevertheless, it was difficult not to like the energetic little girl and by the time her sister returned he felt as if they had developed a small friendship, however unlikely it might seem. Not that he ever imagined any control of the girl. In fact, he felt blessed that the majority of the garden remained intact. And, as for himself... he was grateful to be short only one singed eyebrow. Success.
